WHERE THE GREAT DIVIDING RANGE BORDERS NSW AND VIC
The snow-capped peaks, breathtaking scenery, tumbling streams and crisp, clean air of the 'Snowies' attracts thousands all year around. In the warmer months, Kosciuszko National Park is a popular spot for canoeing, rafting, hiking and camping. In the winter, the region is transformed into an eclectic snowy playground for families as well as thousands of ski-bunnies and snowboarders, most with a kamikaze mission to ski by day, party by night.

DID YOU KNOW...?

Breathtaking.
  • Thredbo operates as a year round alpine village and makes a great long-weekend getaway from Sydney in the warmer months. It's also home to the alpine division of the Australian Institute of Sport.

  • The region is the venue for the annual Tour de Snowy Cycle Classic, the international women's cycle race that takes place over 5 days. The event is now accepted as the women's equivalent of the men's Tour de France.

  • Thredbo is also the venue for the Australian Mountain Bike Championships. In summer, its chairlifts provide access to the top of Crackenback for riders to come down the famous "Cannonball Run".

  • In 1999 the World Fly Fishing Championships were also held in the region – Australia was the winning team. Fishing is possible in man-made dams (some 12 times the volume of Sydney Harbour), mountain streams and rivers.
